Jean-François Caron is a french politician and a member of the Green Ecological European party. He was elected at the Regional committee of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais in 1992 and was the vice-president in charge of the environment from 1998 to 2004. He joined the municipal council of Loos-en-Gohelle in 1995 as municipal delegate counsellor for the territory development and the environment. In 2001, he was elected mayor of Loos-en-Gohelle. He is known for his experiments in terms of sustainable development conducted in his town. He was also responsible for adding the Nord-Pas-de-Calais mining area on the World Heritage List.
