Her business is the manufacturer and distributor of Piñatex®, an innovative natural textile made from pineapple leaf fibres. Piñatex® has been invented and developed by Dr Carmen Hijosa as a sustainable alternative to leather in footwear and fashion accessories, clothing, interior furnishing and automobile upholstery. Based in London, with operations in the Philippines and Spain, Ananas Anam is a rapidly developing business with core values of ecological, social and economic responsibility. It was incubated through InnovationRCA and has the support of Innovate UK.
